2011-2012 SOWSA Officers

Amanda Brouillet graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BA in Communication Sciences.  After completing her undergraduate degree, Amanda worked at Rumsey Hall School in Washington Depot, CT as the Director of Alumni Relations.  She moved to Florida in August of 2010 to begin the Florida Atlantic University MSW program as a full time student.  Amanda will complete her concentration year internship at Children’s Place at Home Safe in Lake Worth, where she will be working with girls’ ages 14-17 at the Libra House.  Amanda is very much looking forward to serving as the President of SOWSA for the 2011-2012 academic year.  She hopes to be able to provide support to the Social Work student body and further excellence within the program.

Cristina Porro is finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at Florida Atlantic University. She hopes to begin the MSW program next fall. This past summer, she traveled with the MSW students of the School of Social Work to London, England. She was able to participate in workshops and volunteer in a Child Services Agency, which confirmed for her that Social Work is her passion. Cristina is excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve as Vice President for the Social Work Student Association. She is looking forward to getting social work students involved in SOWSA for the great opportunities that 2011-2012 year will bring.

Josie Allen graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a BA in Psychology and a Certificate in Women's Studies. She is currently a full time MSW student in the child welfare track. This past summer, Josie went to London with the MSW program and also worked at the Palm Beach County's Model Dependency Court for an Academic Service Learning Project. She will be working at the Parent-Child Center in the age 0-5 psychiatric department for this year's field placement. She is excited and interested in helping to unite the student body by expanding the peer support through social, academic, and professional activities through her position as Secretary of SOWSA for the 2011-2012 year.

Samantha de Borchgrave graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Psychology. After completing her undergraduate degree, Samantha worked at Picatinny Arsenal as an assistant in the Children and Youth Program.  She moved to Florida to enroll as a full-time MSW student at FAU in the Fall of 2010. Samantha will be completing her concentration year placement at Children’s Place in Home Safe, where she will be working with boys ages 12 – 17 at the Libra Boys House. Previously, she was an intern at Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service and also completed a summer internship at the Palm Beach County Dependency Court.  Samantha is excited to serve SOWSA as Treasurer and is looking forward to a productive and fun-filled 2011-2012 school year.
