Peer Support

Me, Myself and Self Care

Here is a gentle reminder to be kind to yourself. Tell us how you have tended to your own self care lately.

“I go to Target as much as possible and aimlessly roam the aisles until I feel calm. This is hard to accomplish when pushing a grocery cart with four children. If it doesn’t work, I go running.”
 –Whitney Paige Cherner

SOWSA's Peer Support Committee has three functions.
  1. To ensure that every MSW Committee Chair has a BSW Co-Chair. This provides BSWs with great leadership experience, networking in the field and life-long friendships.
  2. To ensure that BSW students do not feel alone - to know that they are supported - as they move through their degree. As we move through our education and careers as professional social workers, it will be beneficial to many of us to have a mentor. BSW students can request to be paired with a mentor from the MSW program.
  3. To ensure that graduate students work together to offer support to fellow students. Many of us experience stress and anxiety during our first year of the graduate program, so this committee also offers Peer Support between first year and second year MSW students. We can get through it together!
